Known as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, it would be criminal not to pay this place a visit if you’ve got the time.

The Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory is a dreamy place to stargaze. With the centre looking to foster the perfect conditions for skygazing, it’s THE place to lie back and marvel at the night sky. With minimal pollution and a high altitude, it provides the opportunity to see more of the stars that you’d ever be able to elsewhere.

If you can, try visiting during the summer. With campfire evenings on offer during these months, it’s a unique way to learn about the history of this area.
Lantern-lit Sleigh Ride

The best river outfitters in Tupper Lake, it’s Raquette River Outfitters. If you’re planning on enjoying some water sports (whether it’s paddle-boarding, kayaking, fishing, etc) these are the guys to get in touch with and visit. They have everything and they’ll outfit you for any kind of river activities!

Well Dressed Food
Well Dressed Food is definitely one of the best places to eat in Tupper Lake NY. It’s a mix between a deli, restaurant and a bar and it’s a really popular choice for locals and visitors alike. They also have a specialty food market, if you just fancy stocking up on some goodies to eat back at your cabin or hotel room! The food is well made, with lots of delicious ingredients and amazing flavours to explore.
Big Tupper Brewing
A local hotspot that promises great beer and local history, Big Tupper Brewing is not only a great place to grab a craft brew, but its food certainly doesn’t disappoint either. Their sliders are one of the finest things on their menu and pair perfectly with so many of their beers too!
Though it may seem a strange concept, Washboard Donuts have some of the best donuts in New York state. Based inside a laundromat (weird, we know), it’s a great place to snap a photo and taste the best donuts around. Not a fan of donuts? This place sells funnel cakes and other yummy fried goods too, so it’s worth a visit to satisfy that sweet tooth.
Swiss Kitchen, Park St
If you want some comfort food and portions fit for a lumberjack, check out Swiss Kitchen on Park Street. Here, you can pick up some local fare that come in super hefty portions. Don’t expect anything fancy, but this place’s home-cooking is voted some of the best in the area.

Pine Terrace Motel & Resort
First on my list of places to stay in Tupper Lake NY – it’s Pine Terrace Motel and Resort. This family owned and operated resort features some comfortable but basic cabins. The cabins have full kitchens (which makes self-catering super easy) and there are also fireplaces for the winter months. There are Lake view cabins to book and enjoy too – if you want a lovely view when you wake up.
Hotel Saranac, Curio Collection by Hilton
This high-end hotel, isn’t located in Tupper Lake NY itself, but it’s very close by (just a short drive away) and it’s a perfect destination to base yourself if you want to explore Tupper Lake and the surrounding areas and villages. Hotel Saranac has lovely modern rooms with plenty of space and luxurious amenities.
Shaheen’s Adirondack Inn
Shaheen’s Inn has been voted the #1 hotel in Tupper Lake on Tripadvisor – so it’s clearly a popular and well-loved choice for where to stay in Tupper Lake! It’s a small motel style accommodation, with environmentally conscious initiatives and beautiful maintained rooms. The prices are also really reasonable too – and the rooms have plenty of space and microwave/refrigerators & in-room coffee too!
If you want to find a place with a pool, Shaheen’s Adirondack Inn is a highly rated, moderately priced hotel that’s located centrally. With such a great location, it’s the perfect place to base yourself if you’re looking to see the main attractions offered in Tupper Lake. This bright, family-run motel has a friendly feel, and you’re within close distance of fabulous The Wild Center too, which is a huge plus!
Faust Motel in Tupper Lake
These cosy cabin-style accommodations are located just outside of the main area and are perfect for couples of families. Though they book up quickly in the summer, should you plan, you should have no issues making a reservation.
Tupper Lake Motel
If you’re looking for a budget place to stay in Tupper Lake, the Tupper Lake Motel is a great option that gets the job done. Though you won’t find all the amenities that you would in a high-end hotel, there’s so much to do in Tupper Lake that you probably won’t be spending much down-time in your hotel anyway!
How long do you need in Tupper Lake, NY?
With incredibly friendly people and an atmosphere that almost demands serenity, Tupper Lake, NY should definitely be on your travel list. Though there are plenty of things to do here, you can slim your itinerary down to include only the major attractions should you be pressed for time. In fact, you can probably cover this lovely little area in 48 hours if you time it right! However, if you’re a traveller that likes to take their time and not miss anything, you’d be best allocating a few days to exploring Tupper Lake.
